Mission to the Moon 1969 is the most serious thing Swatch and OMEGA have done with this platform. The dial, hands, crown and pushers are all 18K Moonshine™ Gold. Not plated. Not gold-coloured. Solid.

The gold has a story that is very hard to top. OMEGA melted down genuine spare parts dating back to 1969 and recast them as Moonshine™ Gold for this edition. The gold components come to 11 grams in total, which is a quiet nod to Apollo 11. Somebody at Biel thought about that one for a while.

The design points squarely at OMEGA's gold Speedmaster of 1969, the piece made to mark the success of the Apollo 11 landing. You get a vertical satin dial finish, a black Bioceramic bezel with a gold-toned tachymeter scale, gold bevelled indexes filled with black lacquer, and period-correct OMEGA logos and typography throughout. It reads as a tribute rather than a costume.

Production is capped at 1,969 individually numbered pieces worldwide. Swatch sold it through the Electronic Swatch Timepiece Application ballot, so there were no queues, no boutique scrums and no walk-ins. The application window has closed. If you were not drawn, the retail route is finished.
