Product Description

Rally perforations on a watch strap exist for one reason. Ventilation. The holes were cut into the leather straps worn by racing drivers in the 1960s and 1970s because cockpits were hot, gloves were thick, and a strap that trapped moisture against the skin was a strap that moved on the wrist. The perforations solved a problem. The fact that they looked good doing it turned a functional decision into a design language that has outlasted the cars it was born in.

This strap is vegetable-dyed Italian calf leather with a flat profile and clean-cut edges. No heavy padding. No raised stitching. The perforations run the full length of the strap and the leather is thin enough that air actually passes through them. Some perforated straps punch holes into leather so thick that the ventilation is cosmetic. This one breathes. On a warm day or under a shirt cuff, the difference is tangible.

The lining is recycled microfibre rather than raw leather. Microfibre does not absorb sweat the way a leather lining does. It stays dry, stays clean, and does not develop the smell that unlined or leather-lined straps build up over months of daily wear. The recycled construction is a detail worth knowing but not the reason it is there. It is there because it performs better against skin than the alternative.

Contrast stitching runs along both edges. The thread colour is subtle enough to complement the leather tone without creating a stripe. On the black strap, the stitching is tonal. On the brown and tan, it lifts the edges just enough to define the shape without shouting.

Finished with a stainless steel buckle. Handmade in Italy by Morellato.

Three colourways. Black for chronographs and dive watches where the strap needs to disappear. Brown for warm-dial watches and vintage references. Tan for the boldest pairing and the one that develops the most visible patina over time.

Which watches suit a rally strap?

Any chronograph. The rally strap and the chronograph share the same origin story. A Speedmaster, a TAG Heuer Carrera, a Breitling Navitimer, or a Tudor Black Bay Chrono on a perforated rally leather is historically and aesthetically correct.

Beyond chronographs, the flat profile and ventilation make this a strong daily strap for any sport watch in the 38mm to 44mm range. On a Tudor Black Bay 58, a Hamilton Khaki Field, or a Seiko Presage, the rally perforations add visual interest to a simple dial without overwhelming it.

Standard spring bar fitment. Fits any watch with 18mm to 22mm lugs. Spring bars included.

Watch not included. Strap only.
