Swatch x Royal Oak: Audemars Piguet "SwatchOak" Teased for 16 May 2026

Swatch x Royal Oak: Audemars Piguet "SwatchOak" Teased for 16 May 2026

Updated 6 May 2026

What Swatch teased today

Overnight on 6 May 2026, Swatch dropped two teaser posters. One reads "Royal". The other reads "Pop", with the P overlapping the O.

The font on "Royal" matches the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak script almost exactly. The P-over-O treatment in "Pop" mirrors the O-over-A on the Royal Oak case back logo. Both cues line up too neatly to be coincidence.

Swatch has confirmed 16 May 2026 as the launch date. That gives the watch industry ten days to speculate.

A second piece of evidence: Swatch AG has filed "Royal Pop" as a trademark in class 14, which covers watches and jewellery.

We called this two years ago

In January 2024 we wrote a follow-up piece predicting a Swatch x AP Royal Oak collab. The specifics:

"Envision a timepiece that pays homage to AP's most illustrious creation, the Royal Oak. To keep costs in check, we'd swap out Audemars Piguet's self winding calibres for Swatch's Sistem51 movements. The case and strap? Crafted from Bioceramic, just like the MoonSwatch"

Read the original speculation piece here.

Sistem51 is now reported as the likely movement. Bioceramic is the obvious case material given the MoonSwatch and Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms precedents.

Why this collab makes sense

AP isn't part of the Swatch Group. Omega, Blancpain, Breguet, Longines, Tissot, Rado, Glashütte Original, and Harry Winston all are. AP is independent. That makes this partnership more surprising than the Omega and Blancpain MoonSwatch projects.

The groundwork has been laid for a while though.

After the original MoonSwatch launched in March 2022, then-AP CEO François-Henry Bennahmias publicly praised the Omega x Swatch partnership. He called it a brilliant move for the industry, one that brought fresh energy and educated younger buyers about watchmaking icons.

During the Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms launch in September 2023, AP's official Instagram account commented "when do we launch?" on the post. That was the first hard signal something was being discussed.

Bennahmias and Swatch CEO Nick Hayek are reported to have a close personal relationship. Bennahmias stepped down at the end of 2023, but a deal of this scale could have been seeded under his tenure.

There's also the CasioOak factor. The square G-Shock has been nicknamed "CasioOak" for years and proved how strong demand is for accessible Royal Oak aesthetics. AP took notice.

Specs remain unconfirmed. Based on prior MoonSwatch and Blancpain x Swatch launches, our predictions:

  • Movement: Sistem51 (Swatch's automatic mechanical, 90 hour power reserve)
  • Case material: Bioceramic
  • Case size: 38-42mm to match Royal Oak proportions
  • Price: £350-£400 range. AP sits above Omega and Blancpain in the luxury hierarchy, so expect a premium over the £240 MoonSwatch and £350 Blancpain x Swatch
  • Resale value: 4x retail in the immediate aftermarket
  • UK availability: Swatch boutiques and swatch.com from 16 May, expect queues from before opening

The strap is the open question. The Royal Oak's defining feature is its integrated steel bracelet. A bioceramic integrated bracelet is technically problematic, with brittle links and weak stress points. Every prior Swatch collab has shipped on a strap rather than a bracelet, with velcro, rubber, and NATO all in the mix.

Our bet: this is closer to the Royal Oak Offshore than the standard Royal Oak, shipping on a rubber strap. The Offshore is AP's sportier, more wearable variant and the natural reference point for a Swatch reinterpretation in bioceramic.

Which Watch Brands Do The Swatch Group Own?

It's firstly worth noting, The Swatch Group is the largest watchmaking group in the world and owns an impressive line up of brands, covering a wide spectrum of price points across high end luxury to more accessible watches.

Their prestigious portfolio of course includes Omega, their most commercial brand, celebrated for it's iconic Seamaster and Speedmaster collections.

Breguet, known for its exquisite craftsmanship and historical significance; and Blancpain, the oldest surviving watchmaking brand.

Additionally, the group owns Rado, famed for its innovative use of materials; Longines, offering elegant and timeless designs; and Tissot, known for its versatile and affordable pieces. Other notable brands under the Swatch Group umbrella include Jaquet Droz, Glashütte Original, Certina, Hamilton, and, of course, Swatch itself.

This diverse range allows the Swatch Group to cater to a wide array of watch enthusiasts, and opens up opportunity for numerous 'in house' collaborations.

Swatch x Audemars Piguet

The rumour that Swatch will collaborate outside of their group, with Audemars Piguet has been fuelled by several factors. Firstly, Swatch's recent collaboration with Omega on the MoonSwatch collection was a huge success, demonstrating Swatch's ability to create accessible, desirable versions of high end luxury watches. This success has set a precedent, making it plausible that Swatch might pursue similar partnerships with other prestigious brands.

Recently, François Henry Bennahmias, the visionary CEO of Audemars Piguet, lauded the collaboration between Omega and Swatch as a brilliant idea that breathes fresh air into the conservative Swiss watch industry. He believes this partnership educates the younger generation about timeless watchmaking icons while preserving Omega's integrity.

Furthermore, a response from Audemars Piguet's official Instagram account during the Swatch x Blancpain launch set the watch industry alight. The interaction fuelled speculation and excitement, suggesting a potential collaboration between Swatch and AP.

This social media buzz, combined with the close relationship between the AP CEO François Henry Bennahmias and Swatch CEO Nick Hayek, has only added to the anticipation and intrigue surrounding these rumours.

What's Next Swatch?

Rumours suggest that Swatch's next collaboration will be announced in June or July. Earlier this year, we saw the release of the Blancpain - Ocean of Storms, followed by the addition to the MoonSwatch collection with the Snoopy MoonSwatches in April. The Blancpain collaboration reportedly aimed not only to spotlight a lesser known brand but also to explore the possibility of creating a bio-ceramic diver's watch.

One thing is certain: The MoonSwatch not only transformed Swatch but also boosted the entire group financially. The Swatch Group reported a +12.6% increase in net sales for 2023 and highlighted "excellent growth prospects expected for 2024, especially in the lower and medium price segments."

In their end-of-year report, the brand also noted that Swatch started the year strongly with the worldwide launch of the Scuba Fifty Fathoms "Ocean of Storms" on January 11, 2024.

The MoonSwatch was a phenomenon that may never be replicated, a stroke of genius at the right place and time. However, with over 1.7 million MoonSwatches sold in the last two years, that's a £400 million gap that will need to be filled elsewhere.

Based on this trend, we expect to see a number of collaborations and would love to see a Swatch x Seamaster collaboration next. What are your thoughts? Do you think Swatch can pull off another game-changing release?

QUESTIONS ANSWERED:

When does the Swatch x Audemars Piguet launch? Swatch has confirmed 16 May 2026 as the launch date.

What is "Royal Pop"? "Royal Pop" is a trademark filed by Swatch AG in class 14, covering watches and jewellery. It's the most likely product name for the Swatch x AP collaboration.

What is the SwatchOak? SwatchOak is the unofficial nickname watch enthusiasts have given to the rumoured Swatch x Audemars Piguet Royal Oak collaboration.

How much will the Swatch x AP Royal Oak cost? We predict £350-£400. AP sits above Omega and Blancpain in the luxury hierarchy, so expect a premium over the £240 MoonSwatch and £350 Blancpain x Swatch.

What movement will the Swatch x AP use? Sistem51 is the expected movement. It's Swatch's automatic mechanical with a 90 hour power reserve, used on prior MoonSwatch and Blancpain x Swatch releases.
