How Do The New Official MoonSwatch Straps Stack Up Against Other Premium Options?

Swatch has unveiled their highly anticipated bi-colour rubber straps for the MoonSwatch series, giving owners a chance to customise their timepieces directly from the brand. At MGBWATCHES.COM, we’ve been specialising in premium strap alternatives for the MoonSwatch for almost two years, offering bespoke designs and high quality materials. In this post, we’ll explore how Swatch’s new MoonSwatch straps measure up in terms of fit, feel, style, and value, comparing them to our own offerings. Whether you’re considering an official strap or looking for a more tailored option, this honest review of the MoonSwatch straps will help you with decision making.

Swatch’s New MoonSwatch Straps, So What’s on Offer?

First off, fair play to Swatch they’ve kept things simple. These straps appear to be made from quality rubber, and they’ve added some 'Space Inspired' design touches. The top has a texture that’s a bit like an astronaut suit (how very MoonSwatch), while the underside is dotted with a lunar crater pattern. It’s subtle, but it works. And then there’s the design, bi colour options that tie into the MoonSwatch planets. Think black and grey, red and white, all very on brand, and they’ll definitely complement the watches well, topped off with a win win quick release mechanism for easy changing.

They’ve kept the Bioceramic loop and VELCRO® closure carried over from the stock nylon strap, making them dead easy to fit and adjust. At £38.00, they’re decent value for money. But let’s be honest… they’re very “Swatch". Fun and functional, sure, but with that same slightly cheap and cheerful vibe the brand is known for.

Outside of the Swatch x OMEGA MoonSwatch collaboration, Swatch leans heavily into pop culture quirks, heavy branding, bright colours, and a playful plastic aesthetic—think jelly shoes for your wrist. It’s great if that’s your style, but it doesn’t exactly scream premium or timeless and sadly that feels like the biggest let down with this new strap.

The stock MoonSwatch strap was cool—plagued with fit issues, but cool. It had the OMEGA branding, sleek and understated. But now? They’ve crammed the straps with the “MoonSwatch” branding & logos; In our opinion, it’s branding overload. All the elements that make Swatch (outside of OMEGA x SWATCH) uncool are here for all to see. 

You know when you spot that guy walking down the street in a DIOR cap, an LV T-shirt, Armani jeans, Ralph Lauren Socks and Gucci trainers? Yeah. We get it, mate, you like logos—but it’s screaming try hard. Same vibes here. Less is more, and this is too much. 

In our opinion the whole point of a new strap is to elevate your watch, add a touch of cool, and put your own stamp on your timepiece. As a MoonSwatch is already on the cheaper end of timepieces, adding a luxurious strap elevates them so well. But this? It’s less personalisation, more commercialisation. What could’ve been a sleek accessory has become an overbranded, off the peg product that’s been Swatchified to the max; dare I say it… (apologies Swatch) it's a little bit naf.

Closer Look: Fit, Finish, Feel

Swatch’s new straps certainly have their strengths, but as with most things, the devil’s in the details. Let’s start with the positives: the rubber feels great to the touch—soft, supple, and surprisingly premium for the price. The taper from a 20mm lug down to 18mm is a smart move, giving the strap a more modern, streamlined look on the wrist. It’s subtle but an undeniably stylish shape. 

The VELCRO® fastening? It’s functional, no doubt, and it ties in nicely with the whole space theme of the MoonSwatch. But let’s be honest—it’s not for everyone. Some will love the futuristic vibe; others might find it a bit too utilitarian and the original Nylon strap was a polarising product.

Now, onto the less positive side. Unfortunately, this is where things start to fall down. The logo application is inconsistent, with visible imperfections on 3 out of the 5 straps we ordered (see close-up images). It’s not what you’d expect, even at this price point, and it takes away from the overall finish.

The fit on the wrist also left us scratching our heads. Following the online guide, we opted for mediums to fit a 15.5–17cm wrist, but the result was far from ideal. For those familiar with VELCRO®, you’ll know the scratchy side is called the "hook," and the softer, more flexible side is the "loop." Well, when you fold this strap over, a significant amount of the Velcro loop is left exposed, leading to a few major issues:
  1. It got quite 'bitty' with dirt particles and pocket lint collecting in the Velcro.
  2. The hook side didn't close tightly and the tab kept getting caught on clothing throughout the day, furthermore it began curling up after only half a day’s wear on the inside.
  3. Aesthetically it just looks a bit weird, with that amount of exposed Velcro it looks sort of half finished. Perhaps a larger size would have covered the exposed Velcro fully.

The Velcro tab that’s supposed to stay neatly secured kept getting caught on everything. At one point, I was rummaging in my gym bag, and as I pulled my hand out, the Velcro snagged and unfastened entirely. Irritating doesn’t even cover it. Furthermore, there’s no way on God’s green earth that the medium size fits a 17cm wrist. My advice? Whatever size you think you’ll need, go up a size; Thankfully there are five size options available to choose from.
