Best Display and Storage Options for the MoonSwatch Collection

Best Display and Storage Options for the MoonSwatch Collection

The first time I saw all eleven MoonSwatches lined up together, I understood why people were obsessed. It wasn’t just the colours or the NASA connection; it was the idea of a collection that felt complete. For many, that became the goal — to own the full set.

But once the excitement settled, something strange stood out. For a watch that had created queues around the world and redefined what collaboration could look like, there was a simple problem nobody had solved. Where do you actually put them?

No one had built a proper storage or display case for the MoonSwatch. Not Swatch, not Omega, not anyone else. People were stacking them in drawers, lining them up on shelves, or keeping them in packaging. It all felt temporary, a stopgap for a collection that deserved better.

So we decided to make one.

Why Storage Became the Story

At MGB Watches, we see thousands of MoonSwatches every year. They come through our hands for straps, photos, and packaging. We speak with customers daily, and the same frustration kept coming up. People had started building small collections, two, three, sometimes all eleven,  yet there was nowhere to store them properly.

When the original hype hit, it was all about availability. But once people actually owned the watches, attention shifted to presentation. How do you make it feel like a collection, not just a pile of colourful plastic cases?

That was the moment we realised the gap. There were endless straps and accessories for the MoonSwatch, but not one brand had made a purpose-built case. It was such a simple thing, and yet nobody had done it.

Building the First MoonSwatch Case

The brief was straightforward. The case needed to feel like something you’d see in a Swatch boutique,  structured, clean, and made with care. It had to hold the watches securely but still allow them to be seen.

We worked through a number of prototypes before getting the right balance of protection and presentation. The key was to create something that looked like it belonged in the official launch display but could live on a collector’s desk at home.

When the first production sample arrived, the reaction was immediate. Everyone who saw it wanted one. Collectors who had their watches sitting loose suddenly had a reason to arrange them, to make sense of what they’d built.

The 11-Watch Flight Case

The 11-Watch Flight Case was our first design. It was made for those chasing the complete set, from Mercury through to Pluto. Each watch sits on its own padded cushion within a structured interior.

The result feels almost cinematic. Open the lid and you see the entire MoonSwatch universe side by side. It’s practical, yes, but there’s something emotional about it too. It captures the scale of what Swatch and Omega created; the playfulness, the range, the story.

We built the Flight Case from durable materials so it could actually be used, not just displayed. The clasps close firmly with velcro, the hinges are solid, and the exquisite finish of the outer fabric give you a reason to leave it out rather than hide it away.

When we posted the first photos, messages poured in from people who had been waiting for something like it. The reaction confirmed what we suspected: the market hadn’t missed this because it wasn’t needed. It had missed it because no one had thought to make it.

The Trio Case

Not everyone needs a case for eleven watches. Some people own just a few favourites, others are still building towards the set. The Trio Case came from that idea.

We wanted the same presentation and protection as the full Flight Case, just scaled down for three watches. It’s the kind of piece that fits neatly on a desk, a bedside table, or inside a safe. The interior is the same soft-touch lining as the larger version, and the transparent lid still gives that boutique feel.

It’s become one of our most popular cases. The Trio Case suits people who like to rotate watches weekly or travel with a small selection. It also makes a perfect gift for someone who has just started collecting MoonSwatches and wants a display worthy of them.

What We Learnt From Making Them

Designing cases sounds simple. In reality, it’s not. The first few prototypes showed just how specific the sizing needed to be. The MoonSwatch is lighter and slightly bulkier in shape than a traditional chronograph, so standard watch rolls didn’t fit properly. The straps bent, the lugs caught, and the cases didn’t close cleanly.

We also discovered that most watch cases on the market are made for heavier luxury pieces, so the interiors are too rigid for Swatch-style watches. We had to design the cushions from scratch to get the right level of softness without losing structure.

Those small details made all the difference. When the first run arrived, we knew we’d hit the balance. Each watch sat perfectly, neither loose nor compressed. The transparent top added that finishing touch — a nod to how they were displayed during the launch.

The best part was the feedback. People who had struggled to keep their collections organised finally had a proper home for them. The comments that kept coming in all said the same thing: “It’s mad that nobody made this sooner.”

The Presentation Effect

Storage might sound functional, but it changes how you experience ownership. When your watches sit in a proper case, the collection feels curated. There’s an emotional satisfaction to it — a small ritual that reminds you why you bought them in the first place.

It’s like lining up vinyl records or arranging books by spine colour. There’s order, but also personality. Every time you open the lid, it feels deliberate.

We’ve even had customers say they enjoy the watches more now that they’re displayed. The case turns what could feel like clutter into something that looks intentional. It becomes a focal point, not background noise.

How to Choose the Right Case

A few key details matter when deciding which case works best for you.

  • Size and capacity: Choose a case that suits the number of watches you own now, not the number you hope to own later. Overly large cases can look sparse.
  • Cushion fit: The watches should sit snugly without stretching straps.
  • Interior material: Soft microfibre or velvet linings protect against scratches.
  • Display clarity: A transparent lid or open presentation layout adds visual satisfaction.

These things seem minor, but they make daily interaction smoother. When your watches are easy to access and pleasant to handle, you’ll naturally wear them more often.

Gifting and Seasonal Use

As the year moves into its final months, gifting naturally becomes part of the picture. A MoonSwatch accessory makes a thoughtful present for anyone who already owns a few of the watches.

An 11-Watch Flight Case or Trio Case paired with a new strap creates a gift that feels considered. It’s practical, but it also shows attention to detail. Even our personalised straps arrive in a matte black gift box, ready to present.

For smaller gestures, the Trio-Watch Travel Case works perfectly. It’s compact, stylish, and immediately useful.

These accessories don’t need explaining. Anyone who has lived with a MoonSwatch will understand their value instantly.

Care and Longevity

Our cases are designed to last. The interiors are soft yet resilient, the outer shells built to withstand daily use. To keep them looking their best, avoid prolonged sunlight and wipe occasionally with a clean cloth.

If you travel frequently, store the case inside its dust cover between trips. Small habits like that keep it fresh for years.

A good case will age alongside your watches. The hinges loosen slightly, the interior takes on the faint scent of leather or fabric, and over time it becomes familiar. That’s part of the charm.

The Season in Storage

The MoonSwatch changed how people think about collecting. It proved that watches could be playful, affordable, and still worthy of care. What was missing was the infrastructure around it — the products that make ownership feel complete.

No one made display or storage options because the market wasn’t looking in that direction. We were. We saw people buying their second, third, and fourth MoonSwatch and realised the story didn’t end with the watches themselves. It ended with how they were kept.

From the 11-Watch Flight Case that completes the set, to the Trio Case for those who curate a few favourites, and the Two-Watch Travel Case for journeys through the colder months, these cases now exist because we decided they should.

Nobody else made them, so we did.
