MoonSwatch Ultimate Guide: Everything You Need to Know Before Buying

Are Moonswatch waterproof?

Water-resistance rating of 3 bar. This is basically standard splash-proof, but you might get away with showering and swimming.

MoonSwatches are ´water-resistant´ to an overpressure of 3 bar. These indications correspond to the pressure exercised during the water-resistant test according to the ISO norm 22810. The indicated values are equivalent to the hydrostatic pressure exercised in immersion at 30 m in the water. Every Swatch watch will remain water-resistant provided that the crown, pushers, glass, case and gaskets remain intact. (Crown and pushers must never be manipulated under water!)

What is a quartz movement?

A quartz watch uses an oscillation of quartz to define the time. All Swatch watches are made of quartz movements, except for our Automatic watches. The quartz has the property of oscillation with a precise frequency when it is stimulated electronically. A crystal oscillator is an electronic circuit that uses the mechanical resonance of a vibrating crystal of piezoelectric material to create an electrical signal with a very precise frequency. This frequency is commonly used to keep track of time (as in quartz wristwatches), to provide a stable clock signal for digital integrated circuits, and to stabilize frequencies for radio transmitters and receivers. The most common type of piezoelectric resonator used is the quartz crystal, so oscillator circuits designed around them were called "crystal oscillators".  In other words: quartz is a stable vibration that gives regular impulses. Through the “circuit integer” impulses are given to the wheels of the hands.

Are Moonswatch worth it?

Even if there are watches availability in more durable materials, the main selling point of the MoonSwatch is that you get an original Omega Speedmaster look, it is a near exact replica of its shape and proportions, for a fraction of the price.

All of the Swatches are in BIOCERAMIC, a unique mix of two-thirds ceramic and one-third material derived from castor oil. Although colours like pink and pale blue offer strong clues that these are not your standard Speedmaster watches, a hard-core Moonwatch fan would be hard-pushed to find the difference in the overall look

The MoonSwatch is a perfect for yourself or a gift for someone who is a fan of the original Omega Moonwatch and looking to get the quality and brand recognition of Omega without wanting to make a large investment.
