This release for Kith x Tag Heuer comprises a series of ten new limited edition remakes of the 1986 Tag Heuer Formula one watches. This rebirth has largely stayed in keeping with the original watches. The watches and their colours are named after cities where Kith have stores; including the likes of TAG Heuer Formula 1 Kith New York, TAG Heuer Formula 1 Kith Miami, TAG Heuer Formula 1 Kith Hawaii and TAG Heuer Formula 1 Kith Tokyo.

A segment of this exclusive collection made its debut on Friday, May 3rd, 2024, coinciding with the Miami Grand Prix. The remaining pieces were launched globally on Monday, May 6th, 2024. Among the collection, seven watches are exclusively offered at designated Kith boutiques, while the remaining three are sold exclusively at TAG Heuer stores. Each timepiece in this collection is highly restricted in quantity and comes with an exclusive serial number.

Upon first encounter, the size immediately stands out, especially in today's context where 35mm might seem diminutive, or more inline with a ladies watch size. Yet, this slim 35mm wide dimension is precisely in line with it's predecessors and sits fantastically on the wrist. With it's steel case, black bezel accented in red, and the iconic eggshell dial, this watch exudes a retro vibe. The stainless steel 5-link bracelet feels very well made and with comfort in mind, with it's finely brushed folding clasp [I've noticed it's a little bit of a fingerprint magnet] and double safety push buttons it gives a satisfying click upon securing it to the wrist. The addition of the Kith shield is a reminder of this exclusive collaboration and the update to the iconic Tag logo.

This remake really does have a sense of crispness and precision, recognisable... but tighter, cleaner and solidly engineered compared to the original. Notably, there are material enhancements which help firm things up, such as the substitution of sapphire crystal from the original acrylic, the upgrade from resin to an arnite bezel and the strength improvement of the steel bracelet.

The foundational elements of the original Formula 1 family are unmistakable in the watch face, from the Mercedes handset to the 3 o’clock date window, the contrasting outer minutes track, the iconic rotating bezel and the iconic Tag logo shaped indices at 12, 6 and 9; all features of this new time piece.

Noteworthy additions to the 2024 model include the update to the branding. The iconic green and red TAG Heuer logo has been replaced with a Kith Heuer logo, prominently displayed on the dial. Complementing this change, inscriptions such as "Just Us," "Limited Edition," and "Swiss Made" are featured, accentuating the exclusivity of this collaboration and a modern twist to the dial. Adding to it's significance, the steel model showcases the engraving "Kith and Kin" at the 12 o'clock position on the case, serving as a final nod to the partnership with Kith.

It's fascinating that for a timepiece honouring TAG Heuer's inaugural design, this model marks the first instance of the brand's shield emblem being combined with another logo. While the "Kith Heuer" emblem on the dial is a visually striking statement, the absence of the TAG Heuer logo is a curious choice. Nevertheless, it aligns with contemporary trends, where collaborations hold significant appeal and are eagerly sought after, thus bringing the watch into the modern era.

The specifications further enrich the narrative. Tag haven't offered much information on the movement performance but this timepiece operates on Quartz movement, offering essential functions like hours, minutes, seconds, and a date display at 3 o'clock. The eggshell dial, embellished with a red 60 second/minute scale and black dots, exudes a strong retro charm. It's commendable that TAG Heuer has retained all these nostalgic details, preserving the essence of the original design.

I'm particularly impressed by the black hour and minute hands, enhanced with eggshell lume, which excel in low light conditions, offering vibrant brightness and clear legibility. Even in dimly lit environments, they remain easily discernible. Similarly, the central hand and the dot over 12 on the bezel, also feature lume, ensuring consistent visibility, guaranteeing precise timekeeping regardless of lighting conditions.

Protection is ensured by the new flat sapphire crystal and the sandblasted steel standard crown at 3 o'clock, augmented by a steel crown protector. The sandblasted steel screw down case back, engraved with "Limited Edition," "Kith & Kin," and Kith Monogram printing, adds a final touch of exclusivity, along with the individual numbering, denoted by "One of 1350."

Wrapped in custom TAG Heuer x Kith packaging, this timepiece comes with a modern day box, the certificate of authenticity and warranty, ensuring it's authenticity and value.
