Why upgrade your Hamilton strap?

Hamilton ships most watches on a quality leather or canvas strap. Unlike some brands, the factory strap is not the weak point. The reason to swap is variety. A Khaki Field on the stock olive canvas is a field watch. The same Khaki Field on brown leather is a dress watch. On FKM rubber it is a daily beater. On a NATO it is a weekend watch. Hamilton's design language is versatile enough to carry all of these. The 20mm lug width gives you access to the largest aftermarket strap ecosystem in watchmaking.

Best strap types for Hamilton

Leather. Hamilton's heritage is American military and railroad timekeeping. Brown leather with visible grain or distressing is the most natural complement to any Khaki Field or Jazzmaster. Calfskin and suede both work. Alligator-embossed leather lifts the Jazzmaster into dress territory.

NATO and fabric. The Khaki Field was literally designed for a NATO strap. Its military DNA, oversized crown, and legible dial all reference a watch meant for field use. A single-pass woven nylon NATO is the historically correct choice. Olive, grey, and black are the safe picks.

Rubber. FKM rubber turns any Hamilton into an all-weather daily wearer. The Khaki Field on black FKM rubber with a brushed steel buckle is a look that works from the office to the weekend. Waterproof, lightweight, and the most low-maintenance option.

Sailcloth. FKM rubber with a textured sailcloth-embossed surface. Looks like fabric, performs like rubber. Deployant clasp available. The best of both worlds for Hamilton owners who want the visual character of canvas with none of the moisture absorption.

How do I change a Tudor watch strap?
Use a spring bar tool to compress the spring bars at the lug ends and slide the strap free. If your replacement strap comes with quick-release spring bars pre-installed, no tool is required — press the release tab on the underside of the strap and the bar compresses manually. The whole process takes under a minute either way.

How do I remove the original bracelet before fitting a strap?
Removing a metal bracelet requires a dedicated bracelet removal tool. Unlike a standard spring bar tool, this adjustable tool places even pressure on both spring bar shoulders simultaneously, giving you controlled, scratch-free removal without risking damage to the lugs. It also comes with a free strap up to £85.

Hamilton Watch Strap FAQs

What lug width does the Hamilton Khaki Field take?

Most Khaki Field models take 20mm. The 38mm and 40mm cases both use 20mm. The 42mm case steps up to 22mm. Always check your specific reference number before ordering.

What lug width does the Hamilton Jazzmaster take?

The 40mm Jazzmaster models take 20mm. The 32mm Jazzmaster takes 16mm. The Jazzmaster Open Heart 40mm and Jazzmaster Performer 40mm both take 20mm.

Can I replace the bracelet on my Hamilton with a leather or rubber strap?

Yes. Hamilton uses standard spring bar fittings on all models except the Ventura. Remove the bracelet with a spring bar tool (or our bracelet removal tool), fit the spring bars into the new strap, and click into place. Takes under a minute.

Do you sell Ventura straps?

The Hamilton Ventura uses a non-standard lug width due to its shield-shaped case. Most aftermarket straps do not fit the Ventura without modification. We recommend OEM Hamilton straps for this model.

What is the best strap for the Hamilton Murph?

The Murph takes 20mm. It ships on a brown leather strap which suits its Interstellar heritage perfectly. For a sportier look, try an FKM rubber strap in black. For weekends, a NATO in olive or grey leans into the field watch character the Murph was designed around.
