Every Swatch x OMEGA MoonShine Gold MoonSwatch So Far (2023–2025)

Every Swatch x OMEGA MoonShine Gold MoonSwatch So Far (2023–2025)

When the Swatch x OMEGA MoonSwatch launched in 2022, it created a global frenzy. Eleven colourful Bioceramic models reimagined the Speedmaster for a new generation, and queues formed outside Swatch boutiques around the world. But one special series stood apart from the standard Missions: the MoonShine Gold editions.

Now, after more than a year of silence, MoonShine Gold has returned in 2025 with the Mission to EarthPhase MoonShine Gold & Mission to EarthPhase MoonShine Gold: Harvest Moon. Confused about what MoonShine Gold actually is, why it stopped, and why it’s back now? Here’s the full story.

What Is MoonShine Gold?

OMEGA introduced MoonShine Gold in 2019 with the Speedmaster Apollo 11 50th Anniversary model. The alloy is paler than traditional yellow gold, more resistant to fading, and designed to capture the soft glow of moonlight.

MoonShine Gold soon became a hallmark of OMEGA’s high end Speedmasters. In 2023, it entered the MoonSwatch story. Each MoonShine Gold edition featured a chronograph hand coated in the alloy, turning the Mission to the Moon into a premium, collectible variant.

It also marked the first time MoonSwatches were segmented by price: standard models at £209, and MoonShine Gold editions at £250.

The 2023 series was a masterstroke. Each edition launched on a full moon, available for one day only at select Swatch boutiques. Collectors lined up for hours, with each drop sparking global buzz.

Here’s a chronological list of the releases:

11x Watches were released in 2023 and they are as follows:

  • The Original MoonShine Gold: The very first MoonSwatch MoonShine Gold release. Introduced the gold chronograph hand as a premium twist on the Mission to the Moon.
  • Worm Moon – April 6th: The second iteration that followed featured a subtle detail: a tiny worm engraved at the base of the hand, making it one of the most collectible and talked-about variations in the entire series.
  • Pink Moon – May 5th: Featured a chronograph hand tipped with pink Super-LumiNova, tying into the name of May’s full moon.
  • Flower Moon – June 4th: Showcased a delicate floral engraving, adding seasonal detail to the gold hand.
  • Strawberry Moon – July 3rd: A playful strawberry motif appeared, quickly becoming one of the most recognisable MoonShine Gold editions.
  • Swiss Moon – August 1st: Celebrated Swiss National Day with a lantern engraving on the chronograph hand.
  • Blue Moon – August 30th: A special variation of the Mission to Neptune with a MoonShine Gold chronograph hand.
  • Harvest Moon – September 29th: Featured barley grain detailing, inspired by the harvest season.
  • Lollipop Moon – October 18th: A bold lollipop-style chronograph hand brought a vintage Speedmaster nod into the MoonSwatch world.
  • Beaver Moon – November 27th: Wood-grain inspired design, linking to the traditional Beaver Moon name.
  • Cold Moon – December 27th: Closed out the series with a snowflake engraving, a seasonal tribute to the last full moon of the year.

For collectors, this became one of the most creative and exclusive chapters in the MoonSwatch story.

Why Did the MoonShine Gold Series Stop?

By the end of 2023, there were eleven unique MoonShine editions. The collection felt complete, but there were deeper reasons why Swatch chose to pause:

  • Queue management: One-day launches in select cities across the globe caused long lines that were costly and difficult to control. Due to the limited nature of these pieces the backlash from customers not being able to obtain became a problem.
  • Production limits: Extra steps for MoonShine editions placed pressure on manufacturing and slowed the supply of the core MoonSwatch range.
  • Flight case logic: Eleven editions neatly filled one of the existing MoonSwatch flight cases, making the series feel like a closed set.
  • Charity focus: In early 2024, Omega and Swatch auctioned eleven complete MoonShine Gold suitcases through Sotheby’s, raising over CHF 530,000 for Orbis International. This charity project was a fitting way to close the first chapter.
  • Falling hype: After the initial mania, fatigue began to set in. As special as the MoonShine editions were, at their core they remained the Mission to the Moon model with an alternate MoonShine Gold chronograph hand. By late 2023, Swatch Group was also reporting declining sales and profits, underlining the need to inject new energy into the brand through bigger launches and fresh collaborations

Why Has MoonShine Gold Returned in 2025?

Two years later, the story continues. In August 2025, Swatch revived the line with the Mission to EarthPhase MoonShine Gold Snoopy, followed by the Harvest Moon edition in September.

This time, MoonShine Gold is integrated far more ambitiously:

  • Dual MoonShine Gold moonphase discs
  • EarthPhase indicator at 10 o’clock with UV-coated oceans
  • Snoopy and Woodstock on the dial, gazing at Earth
  • Hidden UV Easter egg printed on the dial
  • Deep navy Bioceramic case (42mm) with matching bezel
  • Navy Velcro® rubber strap

The September Harvest Moon adds a playful twist, with a popcorn box etched on the moonphase disc, surrounded by golden kernels. While some collectors see this as a clever seasonal detail, others have criticised it as “just a disc change” compared to August’s grail-like Snoopy release.

Why MoonShine Still Matters

MoonShine Gold remains one of the most fascinating chapters in the MoonSwatch story. Its appeal comes from scarcity, one-day launches, and subtle variations that reward close attention. By carrying OMEGA’s signature alloy, it offers a tangible link to the Speedmaster’s luxury heritage.

The 2023 collection became a closed set, but with 2025’s return, MoonShine Gold feels refreshed. Whether future editions bring bolder colours, new Snoopy illustrations, or even crossovers with other Swatch Group brands, one thing is clear: MoonShine Gold keeps collectors guessing, and the hype alive.
