Sotheby's is presenting 11 sets of the highly coveted MoonSwatch Moonshine Gold collections in this auction, running from February 12th to 24th. It's worth noting that all proceeds from these auctions will generously support the Orbis Charity, adding a commendable charitable dimension to this already remarkable event.

As part of our celebration of this auction, the MGB team has been on a daily adventure, exploring each watch within this exceptional collection. Our journey has led us to Swatch stores across the globe as we eagerly awaited the opportunity to add these timepieces to our own collections. Today, we are thrilled to share the insights and tales gathered during our pursuit of these distinctive pieces.

SOTHEBY'S DAY EIGHT: AUCTION ROUND UP

As of 21:00 GMT on Day 8, the collective bids for all the lots have surged impressively to reach 371,000 Swiss francs, marking a notable increase of 7,000 CHF compared to the previous day. It's worth highlighting the significant uptick in activity across all 11 lots, with each now commanding bids exceeding 30,000 CHF.

However, stealing the spotlight is the JFK New York lot, leading with an extraordinary bid of 42,000 CHF (£38,000 / $47,000). This bid has surpassed Sotheby's initial projections by more than fourfold, showcasing the immense interest and spirited bidding for these exclusive timepieces.

With the bidding showing signs of slowing down, it seems the bidding war may be reaching its conclusion, unless we witness a significant surge in activity over the remaining days.

THE EIGHTH MOONSHINE EDITION: HARVEST MOON

The Harvest Moon, a well-established concept in lunar folklore, refers to the full moon nearest to the autumnal equinox, typically appearing in September. Its significance lies in the ample illumination it provides, allowing farmers to prolong their work hours well into the night for the purpose of harvesting crops. Originating in an era before the widespread use of electricity, the term reflects a time when farmers heavily relied on the moon's brightness to aid them in their night time agricultural activities. Consequently, the Harvest Moon holds both cultural and practical importance, contributing to increased productivity in autumn farming endeavours.

The Harvest Moon watch edition was launched on September 29th, making its debut in 75 cities worldwide across 85 stores.
